RESIT- Final Costumes (Kierann)

Final Costumes

In the end we did loosely stick to the initial costume design however we didn’t think that the original didn’t clearly represent the vision we were going for.We have come to the conclusion that the male will wear a shirt. This will make him look more casual but will still make him still look like a business man. We have made him look more casual as we want him to play more of the victim rather than the antagonist. This isn’t reinventing the wheel, which we are trying to make sure we do not do as we are mainstream. I have found this out through my research into a film similar to us called “Identity thief” the protagonist is a business man but he wears casual work clothes instead of a full suit. To still connote that he is still a business man he is wearing black trousers and brown shoes. To add to this casual vibe we have presented the male is wearing brown shoes. Brown shoes are commonly seen in the work place as casual smart so this is why are male actor is wearing them. In our first rough cut you can’t see the shoes but it is still relevant to add them to the costumes as it is important to consider all parts of the costume.  What he is wearing now is a light blue shirt, this connotes that he is a peaceful character as the colour is related to that. To show that the outfit is smart casual he has his sleeves tucked up. This shows that he is hard at work. He isn’t wearing a tie. This because he is at home. This connotes that he feels safe and relaxed in the environment he is in now. We also have made it that our actor hasn’t shaved in a while. This connotes that he is too busy with work as well as stressed. Here with the male character we have gone against the generic conventions many people would assume what a business man would look like. We have done this because our film challenges the generic conventions of many stereotypes in our film. Such as the female character playing the antagonist.

In the end we stuck with what we said we were going to do for the costumes for the female character. This is because we thought that this costume best suited her the way we wanted the audience to perceive her. By the female character wearing comfortable pyjamas type clothes it breaks the stereotype of girls. Usually people would think that it would be males who would be involved with stealing and hacking into people’s banks. This breaks the stereotype of female characters always playing the victim role within films. By the audience seeing the female character wearing her stereotypical girl clothes in which they wear at home it’ll make the audience surprised about it. This is what we want to accomplish. What she will wear is a white comfy top. What she wears below that doesn’t matter as in the film opening we will only show the top half of her. The reason why we chose the colour white is because white connotes purity. This is stick with the stereotype clothing wise but makes our point have much more of an effect.
